Salary: USD 160,000 - 220,000 / annual
Valar Atomics is building scalable, advanced nuclear power systems to unlock abundant clean energy for industry, hydrogen production, and next-generation manufacturing. The company is deploying its first pilot plant in Orangeville, Utah and is backed by Series A funding.
You will lead the Purchasing function within the Manufacturing organization's Supply Chain team. This is a hands-on management role where you build and scale a high-performing purchasing team, oversee Buyers and Senior Buyers across direct and indirect spend categories, and drive on-time, on-quality, on-cost PO placement and delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build, hire, develop, and manage a purchasing team of Buyers and Senior Buyers
- Set team priorities, workload allocation, and performance goals; own team-wide KPIs and drive corrective action
- Develop, standardize, and continuously improve purchasing processes, procedures, controls, and systems as the organization scales
- Ensure purchasing compliance with nuclear industry regulatory requirements (10 CFR 830) and maintain audit-ready records
- Escalate and resolve complex supplier issues, schedule risks, and cross-functional roadblocks
- Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, and Sourcing to align purchasing execution with supplier strategy and program milestones
- Report purchasing performance, risks, and mitigation plans to Supply Chain leadership
This role sits at the intersection of rapid scaling and highly regulated manufacturing. You'll work in a fast-paced startup environment with significant autonomy and ownership, directly collaborating with experienced operators and engineers.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or Operations
- 8+ years of experience in purchasing or supply chain, including 3+ years leading a purchasing team
- Experience managing both direct and indirect spend categories
- Hands-on experience in an ERP/MRP-driven environment
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment; detail-oriented, results-driven, strong communicator, and team player
Preferred:
- Nuclear, aerospace, automotive, or other highly regulated industry experience
- Experience building or scaling a purchasing team from the ground up
- APICS/CPIM certification
- Start-up or fast-growth company experience
