NMI is a global payments platform that enables software and sales professionals to deliver payment innovations without building payment expertise in-house. The company serves ISOs, fintech innovators, and technologists by providing access to the latest payment technology and democratizing payments across commerce.
You will own the gateway-to-processor certification pipeline end-to-end for NMI's Payments Gateway group. This role sits alongside the Protocols team, which manages connectivity between the NMI platform and external card acquirers and payment processors. Certifying these connections is critical—it turns engineering work into live, revenue-generating processor integrations and is a common source of delivery delays.
Key responsibilities include:
• Maintain a single source of truth for all in-flight and upcoming certifications across processors and acquirers, tracking status, owner, target dates, and outstanding test cases. Keep this visible to engineering, product, and enterprise sales so certification timing feeds directly into deal and delivery planning.
• Own relationships with processor and acquirer certification teams. You will be the primary point of contact, manage communication cadence, and build working rapport that gets NMI prioritized when queues are long.
• Negotiate test scope with external partners. Certification suites are often larger than warranted; you will work with processors to scope test cases down to what is genuinely required, challenge redundant cases, and reduce certification burden without compromising correctness or compliance.
• Escalate and clear third-party blockers. When certifications stall on the processor side, you will drive them forward by chasing responses, escalating through proper channels, and removing dependencies before they become schedule risk. Treat external delay as something to be actively managed.
• Partner closely with the Protocols engineering team to sequence certification work against development, surface issues early, and ensure test failures get triaged and resolved quickly.
The ideal candidate has strong experience managing external technical relationships in payments or comparable regulated, integration-heavy environments. You understand how gateways, acquirers, and processors fit together and are comfortable reading certification specifications and reasoning about test cases credibly. You are organized, persistent, and diplomatically relentless—equally comfortable coordinating internal engineering teams and pushing external partners to move faster. You operate with sound judgment in high-stakes environments where reliability, security, and compliance are paramount.
