Orenda develops, builds, owns, and operates battery energy storage systems (BESS) in dense urban environments to bridge the gap between renewable energy and electricity consumption. The company is transforming grid efficiency through proprietary asset management technology.
The Project Engineer serves as the coordination and documentation backbone of Orenda's BESS construction projects. Reporting to the Construction Manager, you own the flow of information across a portfolio of active builds in the NYC metro area, primarily from the Brooklyn office.
Key responsibilities include managing the submittal and RFI (Request for Information) pipeline—screening incoming items for completeness, routing to appropriate reviewers, and driving closure. You maintain all project logs and registers (submittals, RFIs, change orders, drawings, equipment, permits) as the single source of truth for project status. You organize and archive critical project records including AHJ correspondence, insurance, legal documents, and contracts.
You coordinate inspections and acceptance tests with city agencies (FDNY, DOB, DEP) and Con Edison, preparing sites and documentation to pass on the first attempt. As the Owner's representative on site, you witness inspections, document work, and represent Orenda with trades, authorities, and utilities. You capture decisions and action items in construction meeting minutes and maintain the project directory and participant matrix.
You work cross-functionally with Development, Pre-construction, Procurement, and Finance to ensure synchronized project inputs before mobilization. You surface issues early with context for action and champion safety on every site visit, reinforcing Orenda's zero-incident expectations.
This role offers a direct path into construction management and deep exposure to the fast-growing energy storage industry. As you master Orenda's contracts, project controls, and BESS systems, you take on increasing responsibility. The position is office-based in Brooklyn with regular travel to active project sites across the NYC metro area.
