VGS is the world's leader in payment tokenization, trusted by Fortune 500 companies, merchants, banks, and fintechs. The company stores over 9 billion tokens and processes more than 10 billion monthly interactions, touching a third of all e-commerce. VGS is seeking a Product Manager to drive the evolution of its payments and banking technology platform.
In this role, you will work across the payments and banking industry to deliver products that serve technologists on both sides of the network. You'll focus on payments messaging, processor integration management, legacy system modernization, security, and compliance. Your responsibilities include:
- Product Strategy & Discovery: Meet with banks, processors, customers, partners, and engineering leaders to map complex technical problems to business needs. Define technical requirements, prioritize features, and create roadmaps aligned with business objectives.
- Manage complex implementation rollouts spanning multiple continents to modernize banking and acquiring use cases.
- Ideate a sophisticated, configurable developer-friendly product interface that supports payments technologists, implementation specialists, and business stakeholders. This interface will interpret ISO8583, ISO20022, and similar messaging formats over various protocols.
- Understand, integrate with, and build on top of pre-existing products and platforms within the VGS ecosystem.

You won't just build features; you will envision new ways of solving decades-old problems, manage sophisticated relationships with industry experts, and help create the technical foundation for modern payments.
The company operates on a remote-first philosophy with flexibility for work-life balance. If you live within 30 miles of an office location, you'll be on a hybrid schedule with some in-person time for collaboration and connection.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of experience in payments technology as a software engineer, product manager, or related function
- Must have experience launching new initiatives involving API design, observability, private networking, enterprise authentication systems, and developer-related technologies
- Deep experience working in banking and/or payments gateways, either directly interacting with networks or with acquirer/issuer processors
- Experience with AS/400 servers, ISO8583, ISO20022, and similar technologies
- T-Shaped Technical Mastery: Broad proficiency across the payments ecosystem including DUKPT encryption, EBCDIC encoding, ISO8583 messaging, observability, and modern software development. Deep knowledge in at least one of these areas as it pertains to payments messaging
- Strong technical opinions on software architecture with ability to advocate for systems operationalized via configuration
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills; ability to write technical documentation for online publication and RFP presentations
- Mindset: Born inventor who loves designing and building; abstract problem solver; technical optimism toward legacy system integration
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with tokenization, payment processing, or security products
- BA/BS degree
- Out-of-the-box thinking in fast-paced startup environments
- Experience working with GTM teams to bring new products to market
- Direct experience in payments/data tokenization space
