Kong is hiring a Product Manager, Billing to own the commercial operating layer of Konnect—the systems that translate what Sales sells and what customers use into invoices. You will be the product owner for entitlements, metering, checkout, invoicing, provisioning, and enterprise/marketplace billing motions. In this role, you will: - Set multi-year direction for how Konnect prices, meters, entitles, and invoices. Decide what becomes shared platform capability versus feature-specific, and sequence delivery to avoid long-term drag. - Build a unified entitlements model that determines what every customer can access. Make entitlements a first-class concept consistently defined in contracts, enforced in-product, and reflected in billing. - Act as the product and systems counterpart to Monetization, translating pricing and packaging decisions into production: configuring plans, reshaping metering, updating contracts, coordinating migrations, and ensuring rollouts don't disrupt revenue. - Run the event pipeline, aggregation layer, and reporting experiences that show customers consumption and charges. Hold a financial-grade bar on accuracy, auditability, and reconcilability. - Own self-serve checkout, plan changes, renewals, lapses, and recovery flows. Cover plan discovery, checkout, payments integration, subscription state, retries, dunning, and admin surfaces. - Connect Kong's enterprise sales and channel motions to the billing stack: CPQ-to-entitlement sync, bespoke contract handling, invoice-based billing, and marketplace billing across AWS, GCP, and Azure. - Replace manual provisioning and fulfillment processes with productized, automated workflows. Migrate off current metering and billing systems onto a target stack supporting the new pricing framework. - Define health metrics for the domain: net revenue retention, billing-driven churn, invoice dispute rate, collections aging, and support ticket load. Use them to set priorities and hold teams accountable. You will report to the Sr Director, Product (Platform) and sit at the intersection of Kong's transformation from a single-product API gateway company into a multi-product enterprise, and Monetization's company-wide overhaul of pricing and packaging. REQUIREMENTS: - At least 6 years of product management experience in SaaS, with 2+ years directly in billing, monetization, or pricing domain. - Can reason about billing stack architecture well enough to co-design with engineering partners. - Have carried a pricing or packaging change from proposal through production, including financial modeling, plan configuration, grandfathering logic, migrations, sales enablement, and customer communication. - Have built or scaled consumption-based monetization and understand tradeoffs between simplicity, accuracy, and customer trust when metering drives invoices. - Can pull your own numbers (SQL, Snowflake, Hex, or equivalent) and use data to set priorities. - Have worked directly with Stripe or a metered billing platform (Metronome, Orb, OpenMeter), not through an engineer. - Hold billing surfaces (plan pages, checkouts, invoices, usage dashboards) to the same design standard as the rest of the product. - Have worked in or adjacent to API, infrastructure, or developer-platform products and are comfortable with technical context. - Can independently define and execute long-term vision to bring billing, fulfillment, and provisioning to best-in-class. BONUS: - Experience leading end-to-end pricing transformation or building a billing system from scratch. - Shipped cloud marketplace integrations (AWS, GCP, Azure) or Salesforce CPQ-to-billing integrations. - Proficiency using LLMs and coding agents as part of day-to-day product management workflow.
