Piq Energy is building an automated network model management system and autonomous grid planning and interconnection software that accelerates the energy transition. The company serves generation developers, large load developers, electric utilities, and system operators across North America and Europe.
As Product Manager, you will own products end-to-end from customer discovery through development, rollout, and iteration. You'll work alongside product-minded software engineers and power systems engineers to build an agentic grid planning and interconnection platform.
Key responsibilities include:
**Discovery & Strategy**: Lead customer conversations directly with power systems experts and project developers. Observe real workflows, test assumptions, and translate findings into specific product decisions. Understand how both technical experts and non-technical users (developers, executives) interact with the platform.
**Prioritization & Scoping**: Identify the most valuable problems to solve and scope useful first releases. Make tradeoffs explicit, resolve ambiguity, and sequence work so the team ships, learns, and improves quickly. Balance immediate customer needs with broader product improvements.
**Definition & Specification**: Turn customer insights into concrete deliverables—written specs, mockups, working prototypes, or test cases. Make expected behavior, acceptance criteria, and edge cases clear enough for the team to build and test.
**Building & Shipping**: Use code and AI development tools to prototype workflows and test ideas. Prototype improvements yourself where appropriate. Work hand-in-hand with Engineering on larger changes, staying involved in implementation, testing, and rollout. Remove blockers and follow through until customers can use what you build.
**Agent Quality Ownership**: Partner with power systems engineers to turn expert judgment and real customer tasks into evaluation cases. Test whether the agent picks the right studies, sets them up correctly, and explains results clearly. Investigate failures and define when the product should ask for expert review.
**Post-Launch Iteration**: Measure customer success and adoption. Review usage, feedback, and product behavior to identify improvements. Fix confusing interactions and recurring failures alongside new capabilities.
The role is hands-on and ambiguous. You'll lead discovery calls, sketch workflows, weigh in on design, write specs, build prototypes, investigate agent failures, and work with Engineering to ship improvements daily.
**Requirements**
- 5+ years building and shipping technical software products in product management, engineering, or a combination, with a track record of independently owning products from discovery through launch and iteration
- A bias toward action: identify valuable first versions, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and learn from shipping while maintaining a clear quality bar
- Experience building with LLMs or agents, with practical understanding of their capabilities, failure modes, and how to evaluate whether they accomplish tasks reliably; use AI tools in your own work daily
- Strong customer discovery skills: lead conversations with highly technical domain experts and their leadership, ask precise follow-up questions, connect workflow details to business priorities
- Clear written and visual communication: express product decisions through concise specs, mockups, prototypes, or evaluation cases
- Judgment and independence to prioritize competing needs, resolve ambiguity with engineers, and take accountability for product outcomes
- Passion for grid planning and interconnection, and demonstrated ability to become effective in unfamiliar technical domains
**Bonus qualifications**
- Domain expertise in grid planning, power systems, or interconnection, including experience with developer or utility study workflows
- Experience shipping agentic products used by technical professionals to complete complex work
- Hands-on building ability: write and debug code, work with APIs and data, use AI development tools to prototype
- Experience building evaluation datasets, inspecting agent traces, or turning expert feedback into repeatable quality tests
- Early-stage startup experience working closely with engineers and customers to take products from initial idea to sustained use
