Salary: USD 191,000 - 293,000 / annual
Tanium, an Autonomous IT company powered by AI and real-time endpoint intelligence, is seeking a Product Counsel to join its legal team. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on providing practical legal advice on product-related issues domestically and internationally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal counsel on a full range of product-related issues, including compliance with global laws and regulations
- Partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Strategy teams throughout the product lifecycle to identify legal issues, recommend solutions, and support go-to-market initiatives
- Serve as legal advisor on AI matters, including AI policies, liability, licensing, responsible AI development, deployment, and risk assessments
- Develop and enhance processes ensuring product compliance with global privacy laws, data security, export control, and trade compliance
- Negotiate inbound and outbound license agreements
- Participate in the company's open-source review process
- Advise on privacy by design, privacy impact assessments, and data handling principles throughout the software development lifecycle
- Review product collateral and marketing materials for legal compliance
- Serve as subject matter expert on products for Contracts and Legal teams; assist with contract negotiations
- Support the company's incident response program and respond to security events
- Contribute to IP strategy and product roadmap, including management of patent and trademark portfolios and IP enforcement activities
Requirements:
- JD from an accredited institution
- Active and in good standing in at least one state bar
- At least 5 years of relevant legal experience at a law firm, government agency, and/or in-house, with substantive exposure to the software, SaaS, or related technology industry
- Familiarity with emerging AI legal considerations, governance frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act) and regulations, with ability to translate requirements into actionable guidance for product and engineering teams
- Working knowledge of global privacy laws and their impact on software product development
- Exceptionally good communication skills
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a tightly-knit legal team
- Ability to work cross-functionally to build consensus and achieve strategic goals while enforcing legal requirements pragmatically
