Salary: USD 212,000 - 290,000 / annual

The Legal team counsels the organization across product, compliance, IP, commercial agreements, and disputes, partnering with engineering, product, and business teams to turn legal challenges into competitive advantages.
As Product Counsel, you will be a key member of Skydio's legal team, serving as go-to counsel for software engineering, marketing, product, and other technical and business teams. You will develop and execute product legal strategy across all products, build strong cross-functional relationships from engineers to executives, and contribute to the company's entrepreneurial culture by identifying risk areas and finding creative solutions.
You will work in a fast-paced environment where you own outcomes, roll up your sleeves, and collaborate shoulder-to-shoulder with engineers and executives. Responsibilities include triaging and prioritizing competing legal demands, managing multiple projects with tight deadlines, automating processes to encourage self-service efficiency, and becoming an expert in autonomous flight technology and regulatory frameworks.
The role demands general legal acumen across intellectual property, compliance, and commercial matters, with the humility to escalate when needed. You will counsel on product launches, international and federal regulatory requirements, and help shape current and future products while ensuring compliance across verticals at home and abroad.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 5+ years of in-house experience as a generalist or product counsel
- Experience with both hardware and software products
- Demonstrated ability to triage and ruthlessly prioritize competing demands
- Strong project management skills: managing multiple projects with competing deadlines while maintaining high accuracy and follow-through
- Collaborative mindset with ability to build strong relationships across departments
- Comfort with ambiguity, strong problem-solving skills, and ability to drive projects to completion independently
- Ideal: experience with international, federal, state, and local government as customers
