As Procurement Specialist, you will own the complete purchase order lifecycle—from initial quote through final delivery—ensuring that hundreds of parts arrive on time, at the right cost, and to specification. You will be the central point of contact for Production, Hardware, Sales, and Finance teams, directly influencing whether robot builds stay on schedule.
Key responsibilities include:
- Sourcing and evaluating suppliers (electronic component distributors and contract manufacturers) on quality, cost, and reliability
- Requesting and negotiating quotes for custom and off-the-shelf parts (PCBs, ICs, connectors, electronic components)
- Onboarding new vendors and tracking their performance on quality, on-time delivery, and responsiveness
- Creating, managing, and tracking purchase orders from issuance through delivery
- Managing domestic and international shipments, coordinating with forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers
- Reconciling invoices against purchase orders and receipts to catch discrepancies
- Collaborating with Production, Hardware, Sales, and Finance to align purchasing with build schedules and inventory levels
- Maintaining vendor communication via email and phone
- Supporting engineering with make-versus-buy analysis and alternate sourcing for custom or long-lead components
- Identifying opportunities to shorten lead times, reduce costs, and streamline procurement processes
- Maintaining quote logs and cost databases for spend analysis and budgeting
This is a full-time, on-site role (5 days/week) at Standard Bots' Glen Cove, NY facility.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2–5 years of hands-on procurement, purchasing, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing or hardware environment
- Demonstrated experience purchasing electronic components (PCBs, ICs, connectors, passives, or similar) for hardware or electronics manufacturing (required)
- Experience purchasing CNC-machined parts, welded assemblies, or other mechanical and electrical components
- Experience working from engineering BOMs or technical part lists
- Familiarity with international logistics (lead times, customs, freight tracking)
- Confidence negotiating with suppliers for favorable pricing, terms, and delivery
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Proficiency with ERP or procurement platforms (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Fishbowl) and ability to learn new systems quickly
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills for BOM tracking, spend analysis, and inventory management
- Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret BOM structures, including assemblies and sub-assemblies
- Familiarity with freight documentation (bills of lading, packing slips, certificates of conformance, customs forms)
- Comfort processing invoices and handling basic accounts payable
- Strong organizational skills with accurate record-keeping and early discrepancy flagging
- Self-directed approach to identifying shortages and process gaps
- Clear, proactive communication with cross-functional teams
- Comfort with the pace and shape-shifting nature of a growing hardware startup
- Genuine commitment to ethics, integrity, and confidentiality
Nice to have: robotics/automation/advanced manufacturing supply chain experience; established network of vetted electronic component distributors or contract manufacturers; Incoterms and international freight/customs familiarity; lean inventory practices or Kanban systems experience; ERP/MRP platform implementation experience.
