Atom Computing is seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager to lead program management for their neutral atom quantum computing hardware platform. This role sits at the intersection of advanced quantum technology development and operational excellence, requiring someone who can manage complex, multi-disciplinary R&D portfolios while maintaining focus on near-term hardware operations and upgrades.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide program management oversight for operation and upgrades of existing neutral atom quantum computing hardware systems
- Manage a portfolio of research projects aligned with Atom Computing's roadmap, ensuring delivery of capabilities for future system generations
- Collaborate with scientific, engineering, and business stakeholders to define program requirements, set priorities, and establish execution plans
- Manage cross-functional dependencies, risks, and scope/schedule/resource trade-offs
- Partner with teams across technical analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and post-implementation phases
- Define and track key metrics, quality indicators, and performance indicators; drive cross-functional execution
- Develop and own communication plans for proactive stakeholder updates on program status, issues, and risks
- Identify and analyze complex technical problems with engineering leaders to develop solutions
- Advise on Atom Computing's roadmap based on progress of existing hardware and advanced research
- Balance technical team capacity between advanced technology exploration and main processor line development
- Support grant applications and partnerships to advance the company's technology goals
This is a senior individual contributor role with significant scope and influence across the organization. The successful candidate will demonstrate thought leadership, operate autonomously across multiple teams, and guide technical and program management teams without direct people management responsibilities.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS, MS, or PhD in engineering, physics, or related field
- 10+ years of systems engineering, quantum, and/or R&D program management experience at multi-disciplinary, deep tech companies
- Program management experience in advanced technology development
- Technical expertise in quantum computing and AMO (atomic, molecular, optical) physics, or demonstrated ability and willingness to learn
- Documented history of delivering early-stage deep tech programs or products from inception through delivery
- Experience operating autonomously across multiple teams with critical thinking and thought leadership
- Experience working with technical management teams to develop systems, solutions, and products
- Strong organizational, coordination, and multi-tasking capabilities
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for large-scale systems
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to teamwork
