Salary: USD 160,000 - 200,000 / annual

Red 6 is an innovative augmented reality (AR) technology startup developing the Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System (ATARS), which enables pilots to simulate cognitive challenges of flying with realistic, scalable training in dynamic outdoor environments. You will serve as Principal Systems Engineer supporting the full product lifecycle of ATARS, from requirements development through design, integration, verification, and operations. You will lead cross-functional teams spanning Systems Engineering, Configuration Management, and Systems Integration & Test, ensuring technical performance, compliance, and mission readiness of complex integrated systems. Key responsibilities include: - Leading cross-functional teams to align technical execution and guide design discussions - Developing, decomposing, and managing system and subsystem requirements using requirements management tools - Establishing and maintaining the Requirements Verification Traceability Matrix (RVTM) with bidirectional traceability - Developing and managing Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for hardware, software, avionics, and platform integrations - Leading design milestone reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, SVR) - Applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and SysML to develop architectures, functional decompositions, and interface models - Conducting trade studies and technical analysis to support design decisions - Managing allocations of weight, power, and system resources - Coordinating system integration and verification activities in lab and aircraft environments - Identifying and managing technical risks with mitigation plans - Serving as technical point of contact across internal teams and external partners REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related STEM field - 12+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, or mission-critical system development - Demonstrated experience across full systems development lifecycle (concept through operations & maintenance) - Proficiency with requirements management tools, including development, decomposition, tracing, validation, and verification - Experience authoring and reviewing Interface Control Documents, Concepts of Operation, Trade Studies, Documentation Trees, Engineering Management Plans, and similar systems engineering artifacts - Experience supporting or leading formal design milestone reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) - Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and cross-team coordination - Demonstrated familiarity with software development lifecycle and software architecture, including integration within complex hardware and mission systems - Knowledge of MIL-STD documentation standards and defense acquisition lifecycle processes - Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (requires U.S. Citizenship) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Master's degree in engineering, physics, or related technical field - INCOSE CSEP Certification - Experience with AR/VR technologies and head-mounted display systems - Familiarity with avionics systems, aircraft integration, or similar platforms - Experience applying MBSE methodologies using SysML tools (Cameo, MagicDraw, Rhapsody) - Familiarity with airworthiness certification processes and safety-critical system development
