Salary: USD 245,000 - 275,000 / annual
Cloaked is a well-funded Series B cybersecurity and privacy platform protecting 10M+ identities. With 600k+ paying members and $375M in Series B funding, Cloaked is scaling rapidly and building AI agents to turn threat detection into automated action.
As Principal Software Architect, you will own end-to-end platform architecture for cloud-native services and public APIs, setting technical direction and guardrails across the engineering organization. You will define reliability and performance standards (SLOs, error budgets), lead incident postmortems, and partner with SRE to meet commitments. You will plan and execute scale initiatives to support 10× user and traffic growth, driving capacity, cost, and resilience roadmaps.
You will lead cross-functional delivery with Product and SRE teams, decomposing major initiatives into milestones and technical workplans. You will chair design and architecture reviews, publish and enforce engineering standards across security, CI/CD, testing, and observability. You will evaluate and introduce new platforms, patterns, and tooling, running proofs-of-concept and phased rollouts. You will define technical approach and non-functional requirements for core platform capabilities and future domains, reviewing designs to ensure they meet performance, security, and cost targets.
You will define cloud reference stacks, requiring infrastructure-as-code, container orchestration, and observability baselines, guiding implementation with platform teams. You will provide technical mentorship to senior engineers and codify best practices across the organization.
The role is based in New York with a hybrid model (approximately 10% domestic travel required). Cloaked offers flexible work arrangements and the ability to work remotely as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field AND 3+ years as a Software Engineer or similar systems engineering role; OR Bachelor's degree in the same fields AND 5+ years as a Software Engineer or similar role.
- 2+ years of experience with: designing distributed or cloud-native systems and public APIs; working with both relational and NoSQL databases; CI/CD and automated testing practices.
- Technical proficiency with: at least one language (Python, Java, Go, or equivalent); at least one web framework (Django, FastAPI, NestJS, or equivalent); cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and infrastructure-as-code; containers and observability; security-by-design practices for cloud applications.
- Qualified applicants should have experience providing technical leadership or mentoring.
- Approximately 10% domestic travel required.
