Monarch Money is seeking a Principal, Procurement to join the Finance team during a period of rapid growth. Reporting to the Head of Operations and Finance, you will own and mature the company's procurement program, lead strategic sourcing and negotiations, and build a proactive approach to vendor and technology-spend management.
This is a senior individual-contributor role with significant company-wide impact. You will partner closely with Finance, Engineering, Legal, Security, IT, People, and business leaders to help Monarch make better purchasing decisions, improve vendor economics, and ensure technology spend scales efficiently.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning and continuously improving Monarch's company-wide procurement process, including system administration for Zip, ensuring it remains efficient, scalable, and easy for teams to navigate
- Leading strategic sourcing and negotiations for material vendors, using market intelligence, usage data, and business context to improve pricing, terms, commitments, and overall value
- Building a proactive vendor-management program that provides clear visibility into contracts, spend, ownership, renewals, utilization, performance, and consolidation opportunities
- Partnering with Finance, Engineering, and business leaders to improve the commercial economics of Monarch's SaaS, cloud, data, AI, and other technology spend
- Driving adoption through clear policies, self-service resources, and employee education, while using AI and automation to make procurement faster and more proactive
Monarch is a fully remote company founded in 2021, offering an all-in-one personal finance platform. The team collaborates synchronously mostly from 9 AM – 2 PM PT and embraces asynchronous work across time zones. AI is core to how the company operates, and every team member uses it as a partner to sharpen judgment, move faster, and expand what's possible.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of relevant experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, vendor management, or technology-spend management, including personal ownership of material negotiations
- Demonstrated experience owning and meaningfully improving procurement processes in a high-growth technology company, ideally within B2C, subscription, SaaS, or fintech
- Hands-on experience administering a procurement-orchestration or comparable workflow platform, including configuring intake, conditional logic, approval routing, permissions, and reporting
- Experience sourcing and negotiating technology spend, including SaaS, cloud infrastructure, data, AI, or other consumption-based vendor models
- Experience partnering with Finance and Engineering to manage cloud or other usage-based technology spend and translate cost and usage insights into commercial decisions
- Strong commercial and analytical judgment, including the ability to connect spend and utilization data to business value and unit economics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence leaders, challenge requests constructively, create clear employee guidance, and drive cross-functional decisions without formal authority
- A proactive, hands-on operating style and the ability to manage multiple priorities, move between strategy and execution, and bring clear recommendations to ambiguous decisions
- Demonstrated AI fluency: regular use of AI in work, clear point of view on where it helps and where it doesn't, and continuous improvement in AI usage. Excitement about redesigning procurement workflows around AI and automation—not just using AI to complete existing tasks faster
NICE TO HAVES:
- Direct experience administering Zip or a comparable procurement-orchestration platform
- Familiarity with AWS and Google Cloud cost structures, committed-use agreements, cloud cost allocation, or cloud-cost-management tooling
- Experience procuring AI models, APIs, financial-data infrastructure, or other high-volume usage-based services
- Experience in fintech, consumer subscription, financial services, or another regulated technology environment
- Familiarity with security, privacy, legal, and third-party risk-review processes
