Scribd is seeking a Principal Engineer to define how the company builds software as AI transforms development workflows. You will own the technical vision for agentic engineering at Scribd, determining how hundreds of engineers collaborate with coding agents to write, review, and ship code across the stack. In this role, you will set the architecture, patterns, and guardrails that enable engineers and AI agents to work together effectively across codebases, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure. You'll partner directly with the CTO and engineering leadership to establish Scribd's internal tools, libraries, and platforms, setting standards that the entire engineering organization relies on. Your work will span defining the roadmap for agentic engineering capabilities, turning cross-organizational problems into initiatives, and mentoring staff and senior engineers to maximize the value of AI agents in their workflows. You'll be responsible for raising the bar across the organization by coaching teams on agent adoption, rolling out new capabilities, and making complex technical ideas clear to both leadership and individual contributors. This is a loosely defined, high-impact role where you'll have significant autonomy to shape the future of engineering at Scribd. Scribd operates under a Flex model that balances remote work flexibility with intentional in-person collaboration. Occasional in-person attendance is required for all employees. The company is committed to a culture of GRIT: setting and achieving Goals, delivering Results, contributing Innovative ideas, and strengthening the Team through collaboration. REQUIREMENTS: - 10+ years of software engineering experience, including time operating at the Staff or Principal level - Hands-on experience applying AI to real software problems; demonstrated track record of shipping, measuring, or meaningfully advancing agentic developer tooling in production - Deep technical knowledge of agentic systems: agent runtimes and harnesses, tool use and context management, and evaluation frameworks - Proven track record of organization-wide technical impact: setting direction that outlasts individual projects, mentoring senior and staff engineers, and communicating complex technical concepts to leadership and engineers - Significant experience in developer experience, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering
