Yoodli is a venture-backed AI platform for human skills development, helping professionals improve communication and career performance. The company has raised $60M (Series B led by WestBridge Capital), is valued at $300M, and achieved 900% YoY revenue growth. Customers include Google Cloud, Snowflake, Databricks, RingCentral, and SAP, with learners in over 150 countries.
As Principal Data Scientist, you will own the data function end-to-end, setting measurement strategy, infrastructure standards, and guiding product decisions. This is a high-autonomy, principal-level role reporting to leadership. You will define what "measurable skills development" means quantitatively and prove the platform delivers it. You'll be the go-to person when decisions need evidence and when metrics require validation. You'll also help customers quantify their own impact with Yoodli, making this work directly commercial.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the measurement strategy for the platform and defining learner improvement metrics
- Designing and running the experimentation program (A/B tests, holdouts, LLM evaluation) and setting standards for other teams
- Building the data foundation: pipelines, semantic layer, dashboards, and models for internal and customer-facing analytics
- Partnering with product, design, and engineering to turn ambiguous questions into actionable analyses
- Working directly with customers' BI and enablement teams to help them demonstrate impact
- Building models for communication signal analysis, skill progression, benchmarking, and churn/expansion prediction
- Translating analysis into clear executive and board recommendations
- Setting the technical bar for data at Yoodli through code review, mentoring, and team building
You won't have a team initially, but may build one as the role evolves. You'll raise the data bar by example.
The role is hybrid with an expectation of 3 days per week in the Seattle office (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday).
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years in data science, product analytics, or closely related field, including time as the most senior data person on a product or business line
- Deep expertise in SQL and Python, with comfort shipping production-grade analytical code
- Track record running an experimentation program (power analysis, sequential testing, guardrail metrics, discipline to call results null)
- Experience evaluating LLM or generative systems: building eval sets, designing rubrics, measuring quality without clean ground truth
- Fluency with modern data stacks (dbt, Snowflake, BigQuery) and BI tooling (Looker, Mode, Hex, or similar)
- Demonstrated influence on product strategy at executive level with concrete examples of decisions changed by your analysis
- Excellent communication skills and ability to be the clearest thinker in a room
- Nice to have: speech analytics, NLP, conversational AI, embedded/customer-facing analytics, early-stage startup experience
- Must be able to be on-site at Seattle office M, T, TH
