Pax8 is seeking a Principal Cloud Security Engineer to serve as the technical authority for cloud security within the Platform Security function. This is a rare opportunity to shape security strategy and implementation across a rapidly evolving cloud ecosystem supporting 39,000+ partners and 130+ vendors.
You will establish secure-by-design cloud standards, create security baselines for cloud infrastructure, container platforms, and third-party services. You'll define modern least-privilege approaches across cloud identities, service accounts, and containerized workloads. Your responsibilities include leading security governance across build and deployment platforms, evaluating network segmentation and cloud connectivity patterns, and creating meaningful security posture reporting that translates technical findings into business context.
You will develop reference architectures and engineering standards that make secure implementation easier across the organization, work closely with DevOps, SRE, and Platform Engineering teams, and embed security expertise into architecture reviews and strategic initiatives. Your work will directly influence the resilience, scalability, and security posture of Pax8's technology platform.
This role combines deep technical expertise with organization-wide influence, allowing you to shape platform security practices that affect teams, partners, and customers globally. You'll have autonomy to set direction, solve complex security challenges, and create patterns that engineering teams adopt globally.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Extensive experience securing modern cloud and infrastructure platforms
- Deep practical expertise across Amazon Web Services (identity, networking, encryption, logging, secrets management, containers, data services)
- Demonstrated success creating security standards, architectural guidance, and governance frameworks that engineering teams adopt
- Proven ability to influence technical decisions without relying on reporting-line authority
- Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes security, workload isolation, access controls, network controls, and container governance
- Strong understanding of software delivery security, platform automation, and modern deployment pipelines
- Hands-on experience reviewing infrastructure as code and embedding security controls into engineering workflows
- Experience assessing SaaS and platform technologies through threat modeling and security architecture reviews
- Familiarity with cloud security posture management and platform governance tooling
- Knowledge of security considerations for emerging AI and agent-based workloads
- Experience operating within multi-tenant environments where scale, availability, and data isolation are critical
- Ability to balance pragmatism and risk management while remaining a trusted advisor to engineering teams
- Valid right to work in USA or Canada
