Tremendous is a global platform enabling businesses to send payouts and gift cards to recipients worldwide. Trusted by 20,000 organizations including Atlassian, MIT, and United Way, the company is profitable, fully remote, and operates with a high-documentation, low-meeting culture across ~175 employees in the US, Canada, UK, Brazil, and beyond. You will be the first dedicated people operations leader, owning the entire people function end-to-end. This is a foundational role where you'll define processes and policies from the ground up rather than inheriting an existing structure. Key responsibilities include: - Manage the HRIS and all associated systems - Administer benefits for US, Canadian, and international employees (open enrollment, carrier escalations, HSA/FSA, COBRA, 401(k), required notices) - Own and develop the employee handbook, HR wiki, and people policies - Lead onboarding end-to-end (cohort logistics, new hire paperwork, first-90-days experience) and offboarding (exit interviews, severance logistics) - Serve as the company's HR point of contact: receive reports, conduct investigations, document findings, and build a trusted intake and escalation process - Run biannual HR cycles (performance check-ins, compensation reviews, employee engagement surveys) and continuously improve them - Handle off-cycle compensation changes, promotions, relocations, and international moves - Partner with recruiting on international employment models (EOR, contractor arrangements) - Own the immigration program: manage active O-1, L-1A, H-1B, and PERM matters, coordinate with outside counsel, track renewals, and ensure I-9 compliance You'll work in a documentation-first culture with direct access to leadership and significant latitude to shape how the people function operates. The role requires comfort with both strategic people work and hands-on execution (open enrollment reminders, I-9 signature chasing, etc.). REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years in people operations, HR, or people partner role, including experience at a company without a large HR team - Proven ability to independently run workplace investigations (including harassment matters) and write defensible documentation - Deep experience administering US benefits and leave; global benefits experience is a bonus - Strong HRIS experience; Rippling preferred - Direct, hands-on experience with employment-based immigration (H-1B, O-1, L-1, PERM) - Experience running performance and compensation cycles for 100+ people - Excellent judgment in unprecedented situations with clear written reasoning - Strong writing skills for policies, investigation summaries, and company communications - Ability to build trust quickly and hold confidences absolutely - Proactive mindset and comfort with both senior-level strategy and unglamorous operational work
