This role is a Payroll Specialist Lead for Japan, joining the Global Payroll Operations Team. You will act as the subject matter expert for payroll operations in Japan, managing end-to-end payroll processing, statutory filing requirements, compliance, exceptions, approvals, and payments. Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as the primary payroll subject matter expert for Japan, managing relationships with stakeholders across Payroll Implementation, Finance, Product, and Engineering teams
- Process full end-to-end payroll in-house, ensuring statutory compliance and data integrity
- Handle accounting and reconciliations with focus on KPIs and SLAs
- Implement and improve payroll processes
- Mentor and support payroll specialists on the team
- Provide backup support to regional managers during absences
You will report to the Manager of Global Payroll Operations and work within a fully remote environment with flexible, asynchronous working hours. The company emphasizes automation and AI capabilities as core to its operations and culture.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Payroll management or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of payroll best practices
- Proficiency with software tools such as SAP, Excel, and Google Sheets
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
- Ability to adapt to fast-paced, international work environment
- Productivity-focused with drive to continuously improve and optimize work
- Comfortable working asynchronously
- Fluent English (written and spoken)
- Strong automation and AI capabilities; AI fluency
- Remote work experience is a plus but not required
