Payhawk is a global spend management platform combining company cards, reimbursable expenses, and accounts payable for scaling businesses. Headquartered in London with offices across Europe and North America, the company serves fast-growing and mature multinational organizations in 32 countries.
As a Payment Operations Specialist in Sofia, you will be the operational backbone of Payhawk's payments infrastructure. Working closely with Product, Engineering, Support, and Implementations teams, you'll drive operational excellence and resolve complex payment-related issues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitor the payments engine and resolve card acceptance and bank transaction issues by coordinating with issuers, processors, vendors, and external partners
- Drive operational excellence and risk mitigation across payment processes; support customer lifecycle events and resolve card delivery issues
- Oversee the complete chargeback lifecycle including scheme submissions, payouts, and ledger reconciliation
- Manage operational client offboarding, including final fund disbursements and bank account closures
- Manage card inventory and logistics (stock, holograms, envelopes) and improve Straight Through Processing performance
- Maintain the payment operations knowledge base and act as a point of contact between card schemes and banking partners
- Collaborate with stakeholders on payment operations projects
- Oversee liquidity across settlement accounts by currency, ensuring efficient processing with banking partners
You'll need 2+ years in payments or a related role, with deep understanding of payment mechanisms (SEPA, FPS, ACH, SWIFT) and familiarity with card issuing protocols from major networks like Visa. Experience in fast-scaling, high-velocity environments is essential, ideally with a track record of building processes from scratch. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills are required.
