Salary: EUR 53,400 - 65,000 / annual
Monzo is seeking a Payment Operations Manager to lead the design, build, and execution of European payment capabilities as the company expands across the continent. Based in Madrid with a hybrid working model (2-3 days/week in office), this role owns Monzo's Payments Product Operations in Spain while supporting expansion into new European markets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner selection and relationship management with payment schemes and partners
- Managing payment scheme implementation projects, onboarding, and adherence processes
- Collaborating with payments engineering and EU product teams to build and launch new payment systems
- Designing and scaling back-office processes for EU payment operations
- Identifying and prioritizing continuous improvement opportunities post-launch
- Establishing performance management processes for partners and operations
The ideal candidate brings experience with payment systems and schemes (particularly in Spain), knowledge of European banking regulations, and a track record of managing complex operational systems at scale. You should be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, skilled at managing supplier relationships, and able to work effectively with technical engineering teams. Strong project management capabilities, analytical decision-making, and the ability to drive clarity across multiple stakeholders are essential.
Compensation includes €53,400-€65,000 base salary plus performance-based incentive awards. Benefits include 38 days annual leave, €1,200 annual learning budget, private healthcare, flexible working hours, and comprehensive wellbeing support. Travel to other offices (Barcelona, Dublin) may be required.
