Via is a transportation technology platform transforming public transit systems into smart, data-driven networks serving hundreds of agency partners globally. As Operations Manager in Elmira, you'll lead daily onsite operations of a transit service, ensuring safe, reliable, and accessible transportation for riders.
You'll own real-time operational decisions across fleet management, driver supply, compliance, and rider needs. This is a hands-on, boots-on-the-ground role requiring 4-5 days per week onsite. Key responsibilities include running smooth daily operations, making informed decisions about unexpected issues, guiding and supporting professional CDL drivers, turning rider feedback into improvements, and using data to diagnose problems and enhance efficiency.
You'll act as the operational bridge between city partners, drivers, and Via's central teams. The role demands deep expertise in fixed-route transit operations, including time-point adherence, breakdown escalations, and run scheduling for large-scale bus operations. You must be comfortable managing Class A/B vehicles (35-45 foot coach buses) and understand associated safety, maintenance, and maneuvering requirements.
Ideal candidates have a background in people management, logistics, customer service, or process-oriented work. You're relationship-oriented, earning trust through clear communication and follow-through. You're tactical and strategic—solving immediate problems while thinking long-term about mitigation. You have a proven track record managing and retaining professional CDL drivers, emphasizing safety and DOT/FMCSA compliance while maintaining high morale in a high-pressure, scheduled environment.
