As Operational Safety Lead, you will be the guiding authority on operational safety risk acceptance for all projects at Applied Intuition. You will create tools to help operational teams evaluate and mitigate safety risks across ground, maritime, and flight test operations—including crewed and uncrewed platforms (Group 1-5 UAS with ordinance), maritime vehicles, and ground vehicles.
Key responsibilities:
- Set company-wide safety requirements and work with vertical leaders to ensure standard operating procedures (SOPs) support those requirements
- Evaluate project risks and serve as impartial arbitrator, with direct authority for safety decisions when risk exceeds "Medium"
- Stay current on regulatory guidance and industry best practices; disseminate updates to ensure compliance
- Provide direct safety input to operators, test engineers, and aircrew through safety stand-downs and recurrent training
- Collaborate with testing organizations on Test Risk Analyses Worksheets (TRW) and test risk management
- Lead development and amendments to operations manuals, test SOPs, and local procedures
- Conduct periodic reviews of operational safety plans for each vertical; ensure mitigation procedures are practical and effective
- Procure and deliver necessary safety training
The role is based in Fort Walton Beach, FL, though candidates may also be considered for Washington DC, Mountain View CA, San Diego CA, or Ann Arbor MI. Travel up to 25% required. Applied Intuition operates as an in-office company with expectation of 5 days/week in-office presence, though occasional flexibility is permitted.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years industry experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Graduate of certified test pilot school OR at least 10 years testing experience including leading test teams
- Maintenance, experimental, developmental, or production test experience
- Experience handling ordnance
- U.S. Citizen
- Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance
NICE TO HAVE:
- FAA Part 107 license (or higher)
- 100+ hours minimum PIC for Part 107
- 8 years aviation experience, 4 years aviation safety experience
- Experience with government test teams and Safety Review Boards
- Advanced degrees
