Relativity Space is building rockets to serve today's needs and tomorrow's breakthroughs. The Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting growing demand for launch capacity. The Offshore Recovery team designs, builds, and operates maritime vessels used to land and recover the Terran R launch vehicle. This is a hands-on role covering the full project lifecycle from system requirements definition and design through shipyard build and activation, sea trials, and offshore recovery missions.
In this role, you will support the design, integration, testing, and operation of electrical systems aboard the recovery barge throughout the engineering lifecycle. You will provide engineering support for electrical systems including low-voltage control systems, rocket ground systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), networking, high-power distribution, and RF telemetry. You will support offshore recovery operations by verifying electrical system functionality and assisting with troubleshooting to enable safe and reliable landing and recovery of Terran R. You will collaborate with engineering, marine, and operations teams to resolve technical issues, improve system performance, and support mission readiness. You will also incorporate lessons learned from initial recovery operations into the design and integration of future landing platforms and recovery systems.
This is a lean, fast-moving team where you will collaborate across the company with Terran R designers, launch pad builders, and rocket engine testers. You will be expected to travel an average of at least 25% of the time, with potential for weekend work and schedule variations to support shipyard activities, construction, sea trials, certification, and offshore mission operations. You must be willing to work in marine and offshore environments and support field activities during system integration, testing, and operational readiness.
Successful candidates must clear a background check administered by the US government to obtain clearance for on-site work at the government partner location in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering
- Academic projects, internships, or other hands-on experience applying engineering principles to physical hardware or electrical systems
- Foundational understanding of electrical engineering principles and ability to apply technical knowledge to unfamiliar systems and engineering challenges
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly and coordinate effectively with engineering, construction, and operations teams
- Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines, contribute to shared technical objectives, and support activities outside primary area of responsibility as project needs evolve
- Willingness to travel an average of at least 25% of the time, with potential for weekend work and schedule variations
- Ability to work in marine and offshore environments
NICE TO HAVES:
- Familiarity with low-voltage control systems, PLCs, networking, or RF systems
- Familiarity with high-power electrical distribution systems
- Experience supporting engineering, testing, or operations in a marine environment
