Flexport is a global commerce platform that simplifies international trade, moving over $19B in merchandise across 112 countries annually. The Ocean Planning Team is central to winning new business and scaling Flexport's ocean freight services.
As an Ocean Planning Associate, you will execute end-to-end planning and booking of ocean freight shipments within a regional network, focusing on exports and origin intermodal movements. You'll serve as the first point of escalation for issue resolution and process improvement across internal teams and external carriers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Execute pre-bookings, trial shipments, and manage rollover lists
- Coordinate daily operations with Account Management, Ocean Execution, Allocation, Procurement, and Ocean Carriers
- Maintain FMT data including allocation, sailing schedules, and cut-off dates
- Conduct data analysis on utilization, forecasts, and allocation performance
- Manage exceptions and escalations according to agreed SLAs
- Build and develop local carrier relationships, including attending carrier meetings and collecting market intelligence on extraloader plans and blank sailings
- Work with Ocean Procurement and Allocation & Yield teams on allocation planning and escalation handling
- Prepare forecasts and request soft allocation to secure space for clients
- Optimize net revenue steering and deadfreight performance management
- Monitor OTE and other relevant performance metrics
- Drive continuous process improvements and automation studies, providing feedback to engineering teams
- Support function enhancements and best practice development
You'll need a Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, business, or related field, plus minimum 5 years of ocean operations or freight forwarding/logistics experience. Strong written and spoken English is essential; Mandarin Chinese is a plus. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, structured, eager to learn global supply chain operations, and customer-focused with prompt, professional communication skills.
