Flexport is a global logistics technology company that moves over $19B in merchandise annually across 112 countries. This Ocean Operations Associate role is based in Qingdao, China and is critical to executing Flexport's mission of making global trade easier.
You will serve as a key operational executor supporting Flexport's account management, customs, and carrier teams. Your primary responsibilities include executing booking and documentation processes with clients and carriers, troubleshooting shipment exceptions, and coordinating with internal teams to ensure smooth end-to-end export operations. You'll handle special freight operations (dangerous goods, reefer shipments, etc.) and assist senior associates with new business implementations and process improvements.
A significant part of this role involves coaching junior specialists and developing operational procedures that differentiate Flexport from competitors. You'll work directly with internal and external clients to leverage your expertise in solving complex logistics challenges, helping them move shipments faster, cheaper, and more efficiently. You'll also contribute to identifying software and process capability needs to support team scaling while maintaining quality and regulatory compliance.
The role offers substantial learning opportunities: you'll develop expertise in ocean and network operations, become a subject matter expert that clients and partners consult for strategy, and gain experience leading small teams in tactical execution. You'll thrive in an ambiguous environment, test operational hypotheses, and help shape how Flexport scales its operational model globally.
Required: BA/BS degree and minimum 2 years of experience in logistics, freight forwarding, supply chain, ocean carrier operations, or consulting (ocean freight knowledge is a plus).
