Vox Media seeks a Network & Systems Engineer to own the design, operation, and evolution of the company's enterprise office network, studios, and production facilities. This is a hands-on role on a small, high-trust infrastructure team where you will be the primary technical owner of the enterprise network end-to-end.
You will have particular responsibility for Juniper infrastructure with Cato Networks providing SASE/SD-WAN and secure remote access. Working on a lean infrastructure team, you'll be comfortable working beyond traditional networking boundaries, equally adept at troubleshooting complex routing or switching issues, planning network migrations, supporting server and cloud infrastructure, and partnering cross-functionally.
Key responsibilities include: designing, configuring, and maintaining enterprise network across offices, data centers, cloud environments, and remote connectivity; serving as senior technical resource for Juniper networking environment; administering Cato Networks SASE platform; defining future network architecture direction including potential migrations to Cisco/Meraki; designing and supporting LAN, WAN, wireless, and internet connectivity across multiple locations; configuring VLANs, routing, switching, STP, ACLs, NAT, DHCP, DNS, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF); troubleshooting complex Layer 2/3 issues with packet-level analysis; monitoring network availability, performance, capacity, and reliability; planning and executing hardware upgrades and migrations with minimal disruption; managing ISP and vendor relationships; supporting server, virtualization, cloud, and identity infrastructure across AWS, VMware, Windows, and Linux; administering monitoring, logging, configuration management, and backup platforms; participating in on-call rotation; developing automation using scripting, APIs, or infrastructure-as-code; and providing hands-on service desk support as needed.
Required qualifications: 6+ years professional experience in network and infrastructure engineering; strong hands-on production experience with Juniper networking and Junos; relevant certifications (JNCIA/JNCIS/JNCIP, CCNA, or CCNP); hands-on production experience with Cisco and/or Meraki; deep understanding of enterprise TCP/IP networking including Layer 2/3 switching, routing, wireless, and connectivity; systematic troubleshooting skills using monitoring, logging, packet capture, and performance analysis tools; experience planning and executing network upgrades/migrations with minimal disruption; AWS networking experience (VPCs, routing, VPNs, cloud connectivity); systems administration or broader infrastructure engineering experience; ability to independently own technical projects from design through implementation and operations.
