Virtual Incision is developing miniature robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) devices to expand access to advanced surgical capabilities. As a Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and test software for cutting-edge surgical robots, working across the full product lifecycle from conception through manufacturing. You will collaborate closely with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, scientists, surgeons, and vendors to ensure software solutions enhance patient outcomes and deliver customer value. Your work will directly impact the advancement of robotic-assisted surgery, one of the most exciting fields in healthcare. Key Responsibilities: - Develop software for system components and define, analyze, and allocate system software requirements - Create and document software architecture and comprehensive design specifications - Analyze and evaluate design alternatives; participate in risk analysis activities - Implement source code to meet product requirements in compliance with applicable coding standards - Identify, log, track, and resolve medical device software bugs - Conduct unit testing using IDEs, debuggers, emulators, communication analyzers, and test equipment - Support integration, verification, clinical, and benchtop testing activities - Participate in technical reviews and process improvement initiatives - Take ownership of assigned projects, drive milestones, and mentor junior engineers The ideal candidate is adaptable across exploratory and highly-constrained design problems, comfortable with both prototyping and whiteboard problem-solving. You are a strong cross-disciplinary collaborator excited to learn from diverse engineering and subject-matter expert perspectives. You demonstrate strong execution skills, ownership mentality, and leadership capability. Qualifications: - Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Computer Science (required) - 5–10+ years of experience with software systems (required) - Strong problem-solving skills (required) - Experience in robotics engineering (preferred) - Medical device or other regulated industry background (preferred) - Knowledge of FDA Quality System and Design processes (preferred)
