Virtual Incision is advancing robotic-assisted surgery through the design and development of miniature surgical robots. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be part of a cross-functional team designing, prototyping, testing, and producing cutting-edge hardware for the Virtual Incision Robotically Assisted Surgery Device (RASD).
You will work on projects from conception through manufacture, collaborating with electrical engineers, software engineers, scientists, surgeons, vendors, and subject-matter experts to enhance patient outcomes and deliver excellent customer value.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop hardware for all system components of the RASD
- Assist in defining, creating, analyzing, and allocating system hardware requirements
- Conduct analysis, review, and evaluation of design alternatives and failure mode analyses
- Design and write verification protocols for created designs
- Conduct integration, verification, clinical, and benchtop testing activities
- Develop Design History File (DHF) deliverables
- Participate in risk analysis and technical review activities
- Support process and design improvement initiatives
Ideal Candidate Profile:
You are comfortable exploring open-ended idea spaces and solving highly constrained design problems. You value prototyping as a tool for answering questions but are equally comfortable working through problems analytically. You are a strong cross-disciplinary collaborator, excited to work with and learn from software, mechanical, and electrical engineers, as well as external subject-matter experts. You work independently while maintaining excellent communication with team members, take direction from senior engineers, and are capable of helping direct and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline (required)
- 1–5+ years of experience in product design, from concept to production (required)
- Problem-solving and design experience (required)
- Mechanical design and CAD software experience; Solidworks preferred
- Robotics engineering experience preferred
- Programming experience in MATLAB, scripting languages, or other programming techniques preferred
- Plastic molding design experience preferred
- Knowledge of FDA Quality System and Design processes preferred
- Previous medical device or regulated industry experience preferred
