Virtual Incision is advancing robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) by developing cutting-edge miniature surgical platforms. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will design, prototype, test, and produce hardware for the company's RAS devices, owning projects from conception through manufacturing. You will collaborate across disciplines—working with electrical engineers, software engineers, scientists, surgeons, and vendors—to ensure designs enhance patient outcomes and deliver excellent customer value. Your responsibilities include: • Design and develop hardware for all RAS system components • Define, create, analyze, and allocate system hardware requirements • Design instruments (scissors, graspers) and specialty tools (vessel sealers) • Analyze design alternatives and failure modes • Design and write verification protocols • Conduct integration, verification, clinical, and benchtop testing • Develop Design History File (DHF) deliverables • Participate in risk analysis and technical reviews • Support process and design improvement initiatives The ideal candidate balances creative problem-solving in open-ended spaces with the ability to navigate highly constrained design challenges. You are comfortable prototyping to validate ideas and working through problems analytically. You demonstrate strong execution skills, take ownership of assigned projects, and drive them to completion. You communicate effectively across engineering disciplines and with non-engineering subject-matter experts. QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline (required) • 5–10+ years of experience in product design, owning products from concept to production (required) • Mechanical design and CAD software experience (required); Solidworks preferred • Problem-solving and design experience (required) • Previous medical device or regulated industry experience (preferred) • Knowledge of FDA Quality System and Design processes (preferred) • Robotics engineering experience (preferred) • Programming experience in MATLAB, scripting languages, or other programming techniques (preferred) • Plastic molding design experience (preferred)
