Cobot is seeking a Mechanical Engineer, Product Design to design and deliver the electromechanical systems at the heart of Proxie, a collaborative robotics platform. You will own mechanical design from concept through test across both commercial and specialized robot development, creating hardware that is robust, manufacturable, thermally sound, and field-ready.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop system-critical mechanical hardware, including structures, enclosures, electromechanical packaging, thermal management, and environmental protection.
- Collaborate with hardware, safety, test, manufacturing, and supplier teams to translate product and engineering requirements into robust mechanical designs.
- Own designs from analysis and CAD through prototype build, validation, root cause analysis, and design iteration.
Cobot is reimagining human-robot interaction, building a world where robots are trusted extensions of your surroundings—working, adapting, and reacting around you rather than requiring you to adapt to them. This is an onsite role at the Santa Clara, CA headquarters.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
- 3+ years of hands-on mechanical product design experience
- Proficiency in mechanical CAD; SolidWorks experience preferred
- Experience designing complex electromechanical systems, assemblies, enclosures, or mechanical packaging
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals including materials, tolerances, GD&T, and structural/thermal design
- Experience taking hardware through prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and design iteration
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, collaborative startup environment
- Willingness to travel occasionally
- Must meet U.S. person status requirements at hire and maintain throughout employment
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience
- Experience with rugged industrial equipment, robotics, material-handling, outdoor electromechanical systems, or complex electromechanical products
- Environmental sealing, ingress protection, thermal management, or environmental validation experience (temperature, shock, vibration, thermal cycling)
- FEA, CFD, or other engineering analysis tools
- Hardware design for hazardous locations, explosion-protected equipment, or highly regulated industrial environments
- Familiarity with hazardous-location standards (Class/Division, IECEx/ATEX, IEC/UL 60079, UL 1203)
- Hands-on prototyping, fabrication, and shop tool experience
