Charge Robotics is a Series A startup building robots that construct solar farms. The company addresses a critical labor bottleneck in solar installation—demand for new solar projects is surging (1 in 5 solar installations in the US occurred last year), but traditional construction companies lack sufficient workforce capacity. Charge's robots directly tackle this problem to accelerate the renewable energy transition.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be the heart of the Charge team, designing, diagnosing, and improving critical assemblies for the company's large electromechanical factory and fleet of delivery vehicles. You'll work on designing, building, testing, and iterating mechanical systems for solar assembly; tracking, investigating, and resolving hardware issues with robots; communicating with other engineers to integrate new designs; and working with very large mechanisms.
The role is based at the San Leandro HQ with an expectation of 4–5 days per week on-site. You'll also be open to 10–15% travel to field locations (solar construction sites) to work directly with the product in its deployment environment and see robots deployed onto actual solar farms.
Charge is MIT-founded and backed by top-tier investors including Founders Fund, Energy Impact Partners, Lux Capital, and Y Combinator (S21). The company emphasizes fast-paced learning, growth, and meaningful climate impact.
