Salary: USD 112,000 - 149,000 / annual
Anduril Industries is seeking a Maritime Technical Operations Engineer to join the Dive-XL Field Operations team supporting Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) platforms. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with customer-facing field operations, deploying globally to support customer-fielded AUV operations from various support vessel types.
You will lead troubleshooting, repair, operation, and maintenance of AUVs and associated equipment in demanding field conditions. You'll master the intricacies of AUV operations and subsystems, serving as a product expert in both hands-on and remote support scenarios. The role requires driving challenging and vague technical problems to clarity and resolution at the interface of hardware, software, and networking.
Customer support is central to this position. You will liaise between customers, engineering, and operations for issue resolution while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction. You'll support the creation, review, and execution of test plans during at-sea testing, working closely with integration and test engineers. Continuous feedback to the product team helps rapidly mature systems.
Training and documentation responsibilities include collaborating on training development for initial customer deliveries and specialized trainings, gathering and integrating customer feedback into user documentation and training materials, and reviewing and contributing to user documentation for all aspects of AUV operations including user guides and mission planning guides.
The role requires approximately 50-75% travel, including significant time spent offshore on vessels of all sizes. You must be able to lift 50 lbs and work extended hours as required. An active U.S. Secret security clearance is required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience operating at-sea robotic systems, ideally in a customer support role
- Extensive hands-on technical experience (field operations, manufacturing, or test)
- Strong aptitude for problem solving in unstructured situations at the interface of hardware, software, and networking
- Proficient with AUV maintenance, operations, troubleshooting, and repair
- Comfortable with Linux, command line interfaces, and software debugging
- Strong computer and documentation experience
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong communication and customer management skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Able to work extended hours as required
- Willingness to travel and support customer-facing operations approximately 50-75% of the time, including significant time spent offshore
- Currently possesses and is able to maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, ocean engineering, related discipline, or comparable experience
- Prior military or overseas contracting experience
- Skilled in deck operations using ship-based cranes, A-frames, or dedicated AUV launch/recovery systems
- Knowledgeable in electronics troubleshooting and test equipment use
- Experience in training and qualifying users or junior staff
- Experience with software development
- Expertise in integrating subsea acoustic sensors, navigation, and communication systems
- Knowledge of offshore HSE policies and best practices
