fab2 is an early-stage hardware startup building semiconductor manufacturing equipment and the software systems that control it. The company was founded by Sam Zeloof (known for making chips in his garage) and Jim Keller (40-year semiconductor industry veteran). fab2 designs and manufactures its own fabs, tools, and components.
The Manufacturing Software Lead owns the software systems that manufacture, test, and calibrate all of fab2's semiconductor equipment. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will architect and implement software for device assembly, provisioning, calibration, and end-of-line test across the entire equipment portfolio.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning manufacturing software for all in-house hardware, from individual components (mass flow controllers, pumps, valves) through fully assembled processing tools
- Designing and building automated test and calibration systems, including test firmware and host-side test software
- Writing production software in C, Python, and Rust for firmware test modes, calibration routines, provisioning tools, and test-station applications
- Partnering with manufacturing engineers on test station design and implementation
- Upholding code and testing standards through code review and feedback
- Hiring and mentoring team members
The tool software group builds Linux control software and microcontroller firmware for fab2's in-house semiconductor manufacturing equipment, including sequencing, recipe execution, interlocks, operator interfaces, diagnostics, and real-time firmware.
fab2 operates labs and offices in Austin TX, Lockhart TX, and San Francisco CA. The company is early-stage with solid funding and world-class advisors. Benefits include medical/dental/vision insurance, generous PTO, visa sponsorship, life/disability insurance, paid parental leave, 401(k), weekly learning & development, commuter benefits, and daily lunches plus dinners three times per week.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 5+ years developing software for manufacture or test of physical products (test automation, calibration, end-of-line test, production tooling)
- Proficiency in C and Python
- Working knowledge of electronics and instrumentation: reading schematics, using bench test equipment
- Experience with production data systems: traceability, test databases, manufacturing data analysis
NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Background in semiconductor equipment, fluid/gas handling, vacuum systems, or scientific instrumentation
- Experience testing/calibrating mass flow controllers, pumps, pressure/temperature sensors, precision actuators
- MES integration or lightweight MES functionality experience
- Familiarity with FMEA, SPC, or quality/reliability practices
- Experience scaling from prototype through production ramp
- Rust experience
