Orenda develops, builds, owns, and operates battery energy storage systems (BESS) in dense urban environments to support renewable energy integration and grid efficiency. The company is building a fleet of assets across New York City's five boroughs.
As Manager of Operations & Maintenance, you will own the physical fleet operations for all Orenda BESS sites in NYC, reporting to the Director of Asset Management. You are accountable for safety, integrity, and operational readiness from Commercial Operation Date forward, as the fleet grows from its first asset to dozens of sites.
Key responsibilities include:
**Daily Operations & Quality Assurance**: Act as the on-site Owner's Representative and QA authority for all preventative and corrective maintenance work performed by in-house crews, third-party contractors, and OEMs. Provide definitive technical approval for all third-party maintenance invoices before payment.
**Field Leadership & Response**: Serve as the primary hands-on response team for critical faults. Build and manage a 24/7/365 on-call rotation program. Perform advanced on-site diagnostics and physical repairs in-house; manage outsourced subcontractors for specialized work under your quality authority.
**Safety & Compliance**: Own the FDNY program including B-28 Certificate of Fitness coverage, site emergency plans, annual inspections, and battalion relationships. Ensure rigorous vendor quality and safety compliance by witnessing critical maintenance steps and performing spot-checks. Own LOTO, job hazard analyses, drills, and incident response.
**Team Building**: Hire, train, and certify technicians to build the field team from zero. Develop 24/7/365 on-call rotation capability.
**Vendor & OEM Management**: Manage field vendors including HV/MV maintenance subcontractors. Coordinate OEM warranty and LTSA field execution. Split vendor QA across Battery OEM and Balance-of-Plant contractors.
**Site Integrity**: Own site security, physical infrastructure (fencing, lighting, access control), and general upkeep. Ensure every site is safe, secure, and audit-ready.
**Commissioning Support**: Support commissioning and operational readiness of new sites; own the operations side of handover acceptance.
**Inventory & Reporting**: Own spares and inventory discipline; provide monthly operations input to reporting.
This role is ideal for a hands-on field commander with deep electrical expertise who has run crews, owned safety without compromise, and understands that in NYC the fire department is a critical stakeholder.
