xAI is seeking a Manager of Materials Management to lead day-to-day operations of a critical materials management organization supporting the build and operation of large-scale supercomputer clusters. This role manages a multi-level organization across 4 shift patterns supporting 24/7 operations, combining both hourly and salaried team members.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing direct reports through administrative duties: timecard compliance, scheduling, periodic reviews, supply ordering, mentoring, and training
- Supporting operational targets for fulfillment, distribution, and storage centers
- Developing strategy, business metrics, and goals aligned with organizational needs
- Leading performance management, feedback, conflict resolution, and corrective actions
- Ensuring safe work environment with goal of zero OSHA recordables annually
- Managing inventory receipt, acceptance, storage, and issuance of parts and hardware
- Maintaining inventory accuracy and process control for internal and external audits
- Driving cost-saving initiatives and optimization opportunities
- Implementing process improvements to maintain year-over-year performance rates
- Monitoring shelf-life storage, FIFO rotation, and environmental controls
- Developing and motivating team members to exceed performance standards
- Adapting operations to support evolving organizational needs
The role requires hands-on leadership in a flat organizational structure where all employees contribute directly to the mission. Strong communication, prioritization, and work ethic are essential.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced degree + 3+ years experience in material/production planning, purchasing, distribution, operations/supply chain management, material cost control, or master production scheduling; OR Bachelor's degree + 5+ years in these areas; OR 9+ years experience in these areas
- Preferred: APICS certification (CPIM or CSCP), aerospace/aviation/automotive manufacturing experience, capital planning experience, Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project)
- Physical requirements: lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, carrying
- Ability to work all shifts, extended hours, weekends, and provide 24/7 on-call support in emergencies
- Must be onsite in Memphis, TN; remote work not considered
- Domestic travel up to 20% as needed
