Salary: USD 184,000 - 202,000 / annual

Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, seeks a Manager of Instrument Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT) to lead a multidisciplinary team of optical integration engineers, camera test engineers, and optomechanical technicians. You will establish technical standards, assembly flows, optical ground support equipment (GSE) architectures, and test automation frameworks for multispectral thermal IR instruments. Key responsibilities include leading and mentoring a high-performing team across hiring, day-to-day tasking, and skill development; establishing test architecture standards and data processing pipelines for optical characterization; overseeing design, procurement, integration, and validation of optical GSE including collimators, integrating spheres, and automated test benches; developing procedures for precision optomechanical assembly and optical alignment using interferometers, collimators, and laser trackers; translating system-level V&V and calibration requirements into executable test procedures; driving environmental qualification campaigns (thermal vacuum and vibration); and coordinating with Instrument Delivery on hardware build flows, cleanroom operations, and safety protocols. You will balance technical leadership and functional management with hands-on contribution to critical optical alignment operations, test campaigns, and anomaly investigations. This is a fully onsite role requiring 5 days per week in Mountain View. Required qualifications: Ph.D. with 3+ years developing imaging/remote sensing instruments, or M.S. with 6+ years, or B.S. with 8+ years in optical engineering, optomechanical engineering, physics, or related field. Hands-on AIT campaign experience for space optical instruments or infrared remote sensing payloads. Demonstrated proficiency with precision optical metrology (interferometers, collimators, laser trackers). Python programming for test automation, hardware control, and data analysis. Experience planning and executing thermal vacuum and vibration testing in cleanroom environments. Proven track record defining optomechanical build flows, alignment strategies, and automated test procedures. Strong communication, presentation, and leadership skills. Nice-to-have: CAD proficiency (SolidWorks), experience in matrixed organizations, familiarity with optical design tools (Zemax, Code V) and STOP analysis, spacecraft-level environmental testing experience. Security clearance eligibility strongly preferred.
