Datadog is seeking a Manager I, Engineering to lead the Reference Tables Access team, which owns the UI, MCP, APIs, and control plane for bringing external data into Datadog. Reference Tables enables customers to use their own reference data to enrich and filter observability data without leaving the platform. The team also manages table identity, metadata, permissions, quotas, validation, and lifecycle services.
Beyond current product capabilities, the team is developing a consistent tabular abstraction that product teams can leverage without managing underlying storage system details. This abstraction supports use cases ranging from log enrichment and security to emerging analytical workflows built on Datadog's internal Data Lake (ADP Lakehouse).
In this hands-on technical leadership role, you will guide the team's roadmap and develop these capabilities into a reliable platform, shaping how Datadog teams manage and build product experiences on tabular data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of engineers and ensure effective project execution
- Partner with product managers and staff engineers to define and drive technical direction
- Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to shape the team's roadmap and contribute to broader organizational technical strategy
- Establish and uphold engineering best practices for consistency and quality
- Mentor and coach engineers, supporting their career growth and development
- Foster an inclusive and collaborative team culture
Datadog operates as a hybrid workplace to support work-life harmony.
Qualifications:
- Strong technical foundation in large-scale distributed systems and/or customer-facing platform development; ability to dive deep into technical details in code and designs when needed
- Problem-solving orientation with experience tackling complex technical challenges
- Engineering leadership skills in prioritization, escalation, and clear communication; ability to help teams make progress through ambiguity
- Experience with mission-critical systems and high-stakes operations, including supporting infrastructure that demands high reliability and rapid incident response through 24x7 on-call rotation
- Datadog values candidates from all backgrounds and encourages applications from those passionate about technology even if not meeting all qualifications on day one
