Saronic Technologies is developing autonomous surface vessels for maritime defense. This Manufacturing Engineer role focuses on developing, optimizing, and sustaining manufacturing processes for complex machined and fabricated components and assemblies in the machine shop.
You will work hands-on with machinists, manufacturing engineers, design engineers, and production teams in a fast-paced startup environment. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for CNC milling, turning, cutting, bending, welding, and related operations
- Partner with machinists to troubleshoot production issues and improve process performance
- Develop processes from prototype through NPI and production
- Review engineering drawings, CAD models, GD&T, and technical specifications to identify manufacturing requirements and improvement opportunities
- Develop and optimize CNC machining strategies, including tooling, workholding, cutting parameters, and process sequencing
- Design and implement fixtures, jigs, gauges, and tooling to improve part quality, repeatability, and cycle time
- Support DFM/DFA activities and collaborate with design engineering on manufacturability and cost optimization
- Create and maintain manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process documentation, and SOPs
- Troubleshoot dimensional, surface finish, and machining issues using root-cause analysis
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle time reduction, scrap reduction, first-pass yield, and shop efficiency
- Support introduction of new machines, equipment, and manufacturing technologies
- Establish and monitor process capability and manufacturing metrics
- Work with Quality Engineering on inspection methods and process controls
- Collaborate with Supply Chain and external machine shops on manufacturability
- Support capacity planning and production scaling
- Participate in hands-on builds and troubleshooting on the production floor
The role offers exposure to advanced manufacturing in a defense/aerospace context with direct impact on product quality and scalability.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, machining, fabrication, CNC programming, or machine shop operations
- Strong understanding of processes, tooling, workholding, and machining fundamentals
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, CAD models, and technical specifications
- Experience developing and improving manufacturing processes in production environments
- Familiarity with machining materials: aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and other engineering materials
- Experience with process troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective action
- Strong understanding of precision measurement and inspection methods
- Ability to work effectively with machinists and production personnel in hands-on manufacturing environment
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Comfortable in fast-paced startup environment with changing priorities and aggressive production goals
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- CAM software experience (Mastercam, Fusion 360, NX, or equivalent)
- CNC programming experience
- Fixture and workholding design experience
- Experience machining composites or advanced materials
- High-mix, low-volume, or highly complex manufacturing experience
- NPI support from prototype through production ramp
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodology familiarity
- Statistical process control, process capability studies, and tolerance analysis experience
- Aerospace, defense, automotive, robotics, marine, or highly engineered manufacturing background
- ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards experience
