Modal is building a serverless cloud platform for AI, data, and compute-intensive applications—a new infrastructure layer for the AI era. The company recently raised $355M in Series C funding at a $4.65B valuation and has crossed $300M+ ARR, serving customers like Ramp, Cognition, DoorDash, and Suno.
You will be Modal's first dedicated legal operations hire, reporting to the General Counsel. This is a high-impact role where you'll build operational foundations from scratch rather than maintain existing systems. You'll own the systems, records, and workflows that enable a small legal team to keep pace with a rapidly scaling tech company.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and maintain contract lifecycle management workflows, approval logic, and processes; continuously iterate and improve
- Create a legal intake process to support and route requests from internal stakeholders
- Leverage AI and modern tooling to increase legal function efficiency
- Manage corporate administration and record-keeping, including Board and stockholder matters, signature coordination, and knowledge management systems
- Serve as point person for corporate compliance: entity management, domestic and foreign filings, coordination with registered agents
- Support stock administration and cap table hygiene
- Manage outside counsel relationships and legal spend
You'll collaborate closely with Finance, BizOps, GTM, and People teams in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years in legal operations, contract operations, or corporate paralegal role, preferably at a high-growth technology company
- Demonstrated ability to build and document processes from the ground up, not just execute existing ones
- Experience configuring workflows and templates within Ironclad or similar contract lifecycle management (CLM) platform
- Experience with AI tools and good judgment about where they help versus where they introduce risk
- Sound judgment about what to handle independently and what to escalate

- Exposure to corporate and equity administration
- Familiarity with Carta or similar equity administration platform
