Anthropic is seeking a Technical Instructor Lead based in New York City to build and lead a dedicated technical instruction function. This hybrid role splits time between delivering hands-on technical instruction (approximately 50%) and developing other instructors and improving instructional quality across programs (approximately 50%).
You will deliver live, in-person technical instruction in New York and remotely across European time zones to audiences ranging from small interactive labs to 100+ technical practitioners. You'll teach engineers, architects, and technical practitioners how to build with Claude and other AI systems. The role requires you to be both a skilled engineer who teaches and a mentor who makes other teachers better.
Key responsibilities include: delivering hands-on technical instruction across onboarding, residency, and technical enablement programs; modeling excellent technical teaching and adapting to different experience levels; running train-the-trainer programs for internal experts and training partners; coaching instructors through observation and feedback; partnering with subject matter experts to develop effective sessions and labs; owning instructional quality in assigned programs; using learner data to identify gaps and recommend improvements; and helping evolve Anthropic's technical instruction standards and practices.
You will report to the Head of Technical Training. The role includes approximately 25% travel to San Francisco and, over time, Europe. You'll work from the NYC office whenever instructor-led programs are in session there, typically around three days per week.
Required qualifications: 6+ years in software engineering, solutions engineering, developer advocacy, technical education, or similar technically deep roles; 3+ years of hands-on technical instruction in live environments (in-person and remote); production engineering experience with shipped software; recent hands-on AI development (within past 3 years) using LLM APIs, agents, tool use, or related technologies; instructor development experience helping others improve through feedback and train-the-trainer programs; NYC location or willingness to relocate.
Preferred: experience designing or operating train-the-trainer, instructor certification, or observer-calibration programs; portfolio of designed and taught sessions, labs, or courses.
