Vocca builds AI voice agents that answer patient calls, schedule appointments, and free up medical staff to focus on care. The company has raised $20M in Series A funding (led by Norrsken VC with founders of Alan and Datadog as investors), processes close to 1 million calls per month, and is expanding into the US market.
You will own the architecture and evolution of Vocca's booking integration layer—the system that connects AI agents to dozens of different medical practice management systems (PMS), electronic health records (EHR), and radiology information systems (RIS) in real time. This is the highest-impact technical scope at the company: clinics whose software is integrated do not churn, and every software Vocca cannot connect represents a lost customer.
Key responsibilities:
- Architect and unify the booking layer, migrating from ad-hoc Python code (written under pressure, provider-by-provider) into a cohesive TypeScript system where adding new software takes days instead of weeks.
- Ensure speed and reliability at scale: optimize for patient-facing latency (calls cannot wait for slow integrations), detect booking failures within 24 hours, and define what healthy integrations look like.
- Own the roadmap for this scope: decide which medical software to integrate next in collaboration with sales, ops, support, and clinic partners; measure success by bookings completed, failures caught, and clinics signed.
- Build and maintain relationships with software vendors in France and the US, particularly for complex integrations that competitors avoid.
- Lead and grow the team: define processes (code reviews, documentation, technical decisions), hire the next engineers, and unblock them to ship in their first week.
The role operates in an experimental, data-driven culture: you test, prove with metrics, and ship. The company uses TypeScript everywhere (Node, monorepo), PostgreSQL, and integrates with REST and SOAP APIs from legacy medical software. You will have access to Claude Max and work closely with ops, support, and clinic partners daily.
Expectations by milestone:
- Week 1: Onboarded on the stack; first production fix deployed.
- Month 1: Own one integration end-to-end; document how the booking layer should evolve.
- Month 3: Unified TypeScript booking layer is standard; new software integrations take days; 24-hour failure detection is live.
- 6–12 months: First US integrations in production; at least one engineer hired and shipping independently.
Requirements:
- 6–10 years building products in production, primarily at fast-growing startups, with at least one role where you saw a system through its full lifecycle.
- Proven track record: you have built something that mattered (e.g., early engineer at a startup that scaled, a system real users depended on). You can articulate the problem, the user, and the metric that moved.
- Experience integrating systems you did not control; deep understanding of the gap between clean APIs and real-world legacy systems.
- Strong in TypeScript and Node; comfortable across the full stack.
- Product and business mindset: you think beyond code, can say no, reduce scope, and explain technical decisions to founders concisely.
- Fluent in French and English; comfortable engaging with clients and partners.
- Not a fit if you want to manage without coding or require a fully specified, stable environment before moving.
