Pennylane is a fast-growing fintech operating system for French SMEs and accounting firms, backed by Sequoia and other top-tier investors. The company has grown from 7 cofounders to 1,000+ employees across 25+ nationalities in 5 years, serving over 1.3 million SMEs and 6,000 accounting firms.
As Pennylane expands into regulated financial services, the company is building Pennylane Financial Services and applying for payment institution (Établissement de paiement) and financing company (Société de financement) licenses. The goal is to onboard new customers under its own licensed entity by early 2027, then progressively migrate existing customers.
As Lead Payment Operations, you will be one of the first operational leaders in this greenfield setup, reporting to the General Manager/Head of Operations of Pennylane Financial Services. You will own end-to-end operational execution of payment operations across SEPA transfers, direct debits, cards, international transfers, cheques, and cash/collateral management.
Key responsibilities include:
**Payment Operations & Execution**: Own day-to-day reliability across all payment rails, handle exception management and incident resolution, act as escalation point for payment incidents, and maintain strong auditability of operational decisions and reconciliations.
**Operating Model & Controls**: Build and improve the payment operations operating model including processes, SLAs, runbooks, and documentation. Define ownership and escalation paths. Design first-line controls aligned with operational risk and regulatory expectations. Prepare the function to scale from 3 to ~10 people while maintaining quality and discipline.
**Performance Management**: Define and monitor KPIs including volumes, success rates, exception rates, incident frequency, MTTR, SLA adherence, and customer-impact metrics. Drive continuous improvement to reduce manual work and improve reliability. Build reporting cadence for stakeholder alignment.
**Tooling & Collaboration**: Partner with Product and Tech teams to shape payment back-office tooling and automation. Work closely with Compliance, Risk, and external payment partners.
This is a high-autonomy role with direct exposure to a strategic regulatory project and the opportunity to shape the payment operating model of a fast-growing fintech serving hundreds of thousands of SMEs.
