Ramp is building smart infrastructure for finance teams, automating how over $200B in annualized spend flows through 70,000+ companies. The company handles payment authorization, risk flagging, spend categorization, and financial close processes.
You will join Ramp's Legal team as Employment Counsel, serving as a generalist employment lawyer with broad scope. Your primary responsibilities include:
**Day-to-Day Work:**
- Provide U.S. employment counseling to People partners and business leaders on hiring, worker classification, compensation, leaves and accommodations, performance management, discipline, and separations
- Own the immigration and global mobility program, including work authorization outside the U.S., sponsorship policy, outside immigration counsel management, and case volume oversight
- Partner with Talent on offer-stage immigration decisions and support relocations, cross-border remote work requests, and business travel
- Collaborate with Finance and Tax on permanent establishment and mobility tax exposure
- Lead internal investigations in partnership with the People team and advise on findings and outcomes
- Handle demand letters, agency charges, arbitrations, and litigation with outside counsel support
- Own offer letters, employment agreements, separation and release agreements, contractor agreements, restrictive covenants, and local-law variants
- Support employment and immigration diligence for M&A transactions, employee transitions, and post-close integration
- Build scalable infrastructure: manager training, policies, self-serve guidance, and repeatable processes as the company expands in the U.S. and globally
You will be part of a small, high-leverage legal team supporting a fast-moving company. You will cover significant ground, run matters independently, and partner across People, Talent, Total Rewards, Finance, Tax, Equity Admin, Compliance, and business leaders. You will manage outside counsel in jurisdictions where Ramp lacks in-house expertise.
**Requirements:**
- 8+ years practicing employment law, combining top law firm and in-house experience at a high-growth technology company
- JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state bar (New York or California preferred)
- Deep U.S. employment counseling experience across the full employee lifecycle: wage and hour, leaves and accommodations, investigations, performance management, and separations
- Working knowledge of employment law outside the U.S. with ability to triage cross-border questions quickly
- Hands-on experience with U.S. business immigration and global mobility, including running a sponsorship program and managing immigration counsel at volume
- Demonstrated ability to independently run multiple time-sensitive matters
- Exceptional written and verbal communication; ability to translate employment law questions into actionable manager guidance
- High judgment on sensitive and confidential matters with steadiness under time pressure
- Comfort in fast-paced environments where priorities shift and processes are still being built; bias toward action
**Nice to Haves:**
- Experience at a fintech, payments, or regulated financial services company
- Experience standing up employment infrastructure in a new country, including EOR-to-entity transitions and works council consultation
- Employment experience across EMEA, APAC, LATAM, or Canada
- Track record using AI or automation to eliminate manual legal work
