Rocket Lab is seeking an IT Systems Engineer II to support its Auckland, New Zealand launch operations facility. This role delivers day-to-day IT support and advanced technical expertise to Rocket Lab engineers while contributing to infrastructure implementations across the organization.
Key responsibilities include resolving complex technical issues across network infrastructure and systems; providing subject matter expertise on critical IT systems performance and availability; driving upgrade and maintenance initiatives with focus on reliability and security; implementing IT infrastructure standards for Space Systems and Launch environments; and participating in 24/7/365 on-call rotation supporting Launch Mission Operations.
The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, deploy, and optimize infrastructure solutions. Infrastructure standards implementation must ensure compliance with Rocket Lab and cybersecurity policies, simplified environment management, automated build processes, high availability and disaster recovery, comprehensive documentation, and cost control.
Required qualifications: 5+ years IT experience with bachelor's degree (or 9+ years equivalent); 2+ years Linux or DevOps-focused role; hands-on Linux OS deployment in physical or virtualized environments; Enterprise Linux OS architecture and administration; proficiency with Linux-based systems (Apache, BIND, HAProxy, NGINX, sendmail/postfix, iptables); configuration management experience (Ansible, Puppet); infrastructure as code and DevOps tools (Docker, Kubernetes); and networking knowledge including security, architecture design, and troubleshooting.
Desirable qualifications include specialist certifications (Linux, CCNA, AWS, Azure); mass device deployment or IaC experience; Python, Shell, Bash scripting; IPv4, switching, routing, firewall and HA architecture experience; monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, InfluxDB); and advanced problem-solving skills.
