Icarus is building solar-powered aircraft that operate at 60,000 feet for weeks at a time, establishing persistent presence in the stratosphere. As the first dedicated IT hire, you will own IT end-to-end across the entire organization—from laptop provisioning and identity management to factory floor networking and compliance infrastructure.
Your responsibilities span multiple domains: run front-line support for the company, administer Microsoft 365 (Entra ID, Intune, SharePoint, Teams) and SaaS tools, manage identity and access across business systems, oversee endpoint management for Windows, macOS, and Linux including imaging and MDM enrollment, and own IT asset management to ensure hardware availability aligns with hiring plans. You will support network and infrastructure across both office and factory environments, including conference room AV and connectivity for test and manufacturing equipment.
A critical part of this role is building IT-side controls required for NIST 800-171 and CMMC compliance, partnering with the security function. You are expected to automate repetitive work through scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) and document processes as you build them—you are writing the runbook from scratch, not inheriting one.
The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of hands-on IT experience in fast-paced environments with a track record of resolving issues independently. You need strong Microsoft 365 administration skills, hands-on support across Windows and macOS with Linux comfort, experience with identity and access management tools (Entra ID, Okta), endpoint management platforms (Intune, Jamf), and scripting ability. Excellent written communication is essential—you write documentation people actually use.
Bonus experience includes NIST 800-171 or CMMC preparation, aerospace/defense IT background, networking depth (VLANs, firewalls, segmented networks), support for engineering tooling (CAD, PLM, ERP), relevant certifications, or startup experience wearing multiple hats.
This is not a traditional IT role. You are supporting engineers and a factory, not just an office. You are building the function from the ground up with full ownership, no inherited backlog, and no hand-holding. The culture prioritizes engineering and execution over process and management overhead. You must thrive under pressure, learn fast, and solve problems across functions.
