Crux is a capital platform modernizing fundraising and deployment for clean energy and critical infrastructure. The company has raised $77M from top-tier investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Lowercarbon Capital, and operates a $500M debt facility with Nuveen. With 100+ employees and 120+ transactions closed in the last two years, Crux is scaling rapidly in the clean economy space.
As IT Lead, you will own all aspects of technology infrastructure and employee experience at Crux. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor-heavy role where you manage the full IT function as the primary or sole IT owner—not one of many on a team.
Key responsibilities include: provisioning and offboarding for SSO/identity management during new-hire onboarding; driving faster turnaround on SOC2 audit requests and managing the audit cycle; auditing all systems to identify usage patterns and cost-cutting opportunities; establishing vendor renegotiation cadence; and managing device management and endpoint tooling across a mixed Mac/Windows environment.
You'll work with a modern startup tech stack including Google Workspace, Slack, Microsoft 365, 1Password, Vanta, GitHub, Claude, and others. The role emphasizes automation—seeing manual processes and designing systems to eliminate entire categories of requests rather than just fulfilling tickets. You'll also integrate AI tools (Claude, Harvey, etc.) into daily IT operations and push that frontier forward.
The ideal candidate has 4–7 years of IT experience at high-growth startups, ideally as the sole or primary IT owner. You should have hands-on depth with Google Workspace, MDM platforms, identity providers, SSO/SAML, and SaaS lifecycle tooling. Direct SOC2 audit experience is required—owning evidence, managing control areas, or running the program. You'll need a track record negotiating SaaS contracts and rationalizing vendor spend, comfort with mixed environments, and the ability to operate independently while managing a high-volume request queue and still making time for structural work. Bonus experience includes running IT at a high-growth startup, running security functions, or working in regulated industries.
Crux offers a remote-first model with optional offices in DC, NYC, Bay Area, Seattle, Denver, Boston, and LA. The company has a high-growth, high-ownership culture with three company offsites per year. Benefits include 100% premium coverage for employee healthcare (Aetna/Kaiser), 100% dental/vision for employees, 20 days PTO, 16 weeks parental leave for birthing parents, and a company-wide revenue-tied bonus.
