Thinking Machines Lab is seeking an IT Engineer to serve as the primary IT partner for the New York office. This role combines hands-on technical support with infrastructure management and cross-office collaboration.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide onsite IT support for New York employees, resolving hardware, software, access, network, and workplace technology issues
- Own employee onboarding and offboarding, including hardware procurement, device preparation, account provisioning, and access management
- Administer Okta for Single Sign-On, application integrations, and access management
- Manage corporate technology systems using Terraform and Git-based workflows, contributing to Infrastructure as Code initiatives
- Operate and maintain New York office technology infrastructure including ISPs, networking, firewalls, conference rooms, and physical security systems (door access, cameras)
- Set up and support conference room technology, hybrid meetings, and company-wide events
- Maintain and secure the macOS device fleet using MDM platforms, ensuring compliance and reliability
- Partner with the San Francisco IT and Security team on company-wide initiatives, incident response, and infrastructure improvements
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and building management on technology installations and upgrades
Required qualifications: 5+ years in IT engineering, systems administration, or corporate IT; experience supporting employees and infrastructure in onsite office environments; strong experience with identity, SaaS, endpoint-management, and collaboration platforms; working knowledge of Git and version-controlled workflows; ability to work onsite Monday-Friday in New York with monthly travel to San Francisco.
Preferred qualifications include deep experience with Google Workspace, Slack Enterprise, and GitHub; strong Okta and SSO knowledge; Terraform and GitOps experience; macOS/Kandji device management; office networking and wireless infrastructure support; physical security systems familiarity; automation skills in Python or Bash; vendor and project management experience.
