Apex manufactures satellite buses (spacecraft platforms) at scale for the commercial space industry, combining software, vertical integration, and hardware engineering. The company has raised over $500M in funding and is rapidly scaling to meet growing demand from payload companies as launch costs decrease.
The IT Engineer will own the design, implementation, administration, and optimization of Apex's technology infrastructure. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on architecture and infrastructure lifecycle management, not help desk support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and manage physical and virtual server infrastructure from deployment through ongoing optimization
- Administer Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux environments across the organization
- Design, configure, and troubleshoot enterprise networking (LAN, WAN, VLANs, Wi-Fi, VPNs, firewalls, routing, switching)
- Manage cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure and AWS (including GovCloud)
- Administer Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Entra ID, Intune, Jira/Confluence, and Slack
- Develop automation and administrative scripts using PowerShell, Bash, and Python
- Lead or participate in IT infrastructure projects with cross-functional teams
- Provide Tier 3 technical support and mentor other IT team members on complex issues
- Document configurations, procedures, and solutions
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 5–7 years of progressive hands-on experience in IT engineering, systems administration, or network engineering
- Deep technical expertise across operating systems, server administration, and networking
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with ability to identify root causes
- Proficiency with PowerShell, Bash, and Python scripting
- Experience with Microsoft 365 suite and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS)
- US Citizenship required
- Full-time, on-site in Playa Vista, Los Angeles
