Epoch AI is seeking an IT and Security Specialist to own systems, accounts, and access management while establishing security standards that protect research and data. This is a hands-on role combining two core responsibilities: access control (determining who can reach which systems, maintaining current access as the team evolves) and security implementation (setting practical standards and executing them).
Day-to-day work includes identifying and fixing security risks, making implementation decisions (e.g., 2FA approaches), and collaborating with engineering and research teams to ensure security protocols are followed rather than circumvented. The role requires balancing security controls against operational friction—the philosophy is to avoid adding processes unless there is clear justification.
You would work closely with engineers and researchers, own access decisions as the organization grows, and develop practical, risk-based security judgment. While coding is minimal, constant collaboration with technical teams is essential.
Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in security and IT operations, with strong security instincts and practical risk assessment skills. Experience owning access at a growing organization is valuable but not required; the company prioritizes security judgment over specific credentials.
