Auror is a 13-year-old New Zealand company empowering the retail industry to tackle theft and organized retail crime—a $150 billion global problem. The company works with major retailers across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, using technology and intelligence to reduce crime and support law enforcement. You'll join the Risk Detection stream in Product Engineering as a frontend-leaning full-stack engineer. Your primary focus will be building and improving customer-facing experiences using React and TypeScript, particularly within Auror Subject Recognition (ASR) and the broader Risk Detection platform. You'll transform high-volume signals into accurate, actionable detections that help retailers and law enforcement prevent and respond to harm, and you'll build workflows for retailers to manage enrollment of persons of interest. While frontend is your primary focus, this is a genuine full-stack role. You'll work across APIs, services, and data flows, and contribute to C#/.NET backend services as needed to deliver end-to-end customer outcomes. You'll develop a strong understanding of how the Risk Detection system works across the entire architecture, from POI enrollment and detection processing through to customer-facing experiences. You'll work closely with other engineers, Product, Design, and QE to understand customer problems, contribute to technical solutions, and ship reliable, intuitive, maintainable software. The engineering team ships code to production 10-15 times daily with minimal defects, uses cloud-native architecture on Azure, and maintains a coaching culture focused on continuous improvement. Success means consistently delivering high-quality product improvements, taking ownership of increasingly complex problems, contributing positively to team engineering practices, and growing your technical capability. You'll participate in code reviews, technical discussions, pairing, and incident response. The role emphasizes quality across usability, accessibility, performance, reliability, security, and maintainability. You're also encouraged to explore how AI and LLM-based tools can support development, testing, debugging, and learning. The role is based in Auckland with a hybrid model: the team primarily works remotely, but you'll receive regular in-person coaching and support from colleagues in Auckland, alongside remote support from your immediate team. Candidates must currently live in Auckland or be willing to relocate. REQUIREMENTS: - Desire to do frontend engineering; excited about building modern web applications with React and TypeScript or similar technologies - Strong engineering fundamentals: write understandable, maintainable code with good grounding in software design, testing, debugging, and development practices - Product mindset: interested in why something is being built, not just what needs to be implemented; care about customer experience - Growing full-stack capability: comfortable working with APIs and backend concepts; interested in developing further across the stack. Experience with C#, .NET, or similar backend technologies is useful but not essential - Ownership: can independently deliver well-scoped pieces of work and know when to ask for help, clarification, or another perspective - Quality mindset: care about usability, accessibility, performance, reliability, security, and maintainability - Collaboration: work well with engineers and cross-functional partners; contribute constructively to discussions; open to feedback and different perspectives - Communication: can explain your thinking, ask good questions, and communicate technical concepts clearly - Curiosity: enjoy learning how systems work and want to continue developing technical and product judgment - Interest in AI-assisted engineering: curious about how AI and LLM tooling can improve how you build and understand software - Strong alignment to Auror's Guiding Principles (available on their Careers page)
